UPS Broadens Multimodal Express Portfolio with China-Europe Rail Offering

UPS now offers the rail service from Chengdu, China, to Lodz, Poland, and from Zhengzhou, China, to Hamburg, Germany. The new rail service is up to 50 percent faster than ocean freight and up to 70 percent less costly than air freight. *The new rail service is well-timed to meet the needs of customers looking to balance supply chains. Combining the rail movement with a truck network, UPS can provide service to customers throughout China and Europe. The rail offering follows several enhancements in 2013 to UPS's multimodal express services, including the expansion of UPS Preferred Less-Than-Container Load (LCL) ocean freight service from Asia to Mexico and from Europe to the U.S. and Canada, and the introduction of UPS Worldwide Express Freight service to and from the UAE.

UPS Expands Memphis Facility

US 06/25/14Memphis, TNExpanded facility will increase package processing capacity by more than 80 percentConstruction recently began to expand by one-third the UPSandreg; (NYSE: UPS) package distribution facility on Swinnea Road in Memphis. The Memphis UPS hub is a centerpiece for the efficient movement of package volume between Alabama, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Tennessee. The larger facility footprint and new sorting technology will handle increasing UPS volume in the mid-South driven largely from double-digit e-commerce volume growth. UPS also recently installed a new UPS Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) fueling station on the Memphis property. UPS expects to add 350 new jobs over a three-year period to meet volume growth at this site.

UPS Honored at Annual North American 3PL Awards

UPS received top honors in several key categories, including: Best 3PL for Automotive Supply Chains, Best 3PL for Pharma/Lifesciences/Healthcare Supply Chains, Best 3PL for Sustainability Supply Chains, and Best 3PL for Hi-Tech & Electronics Supply Chains. The awards were presented during eyefortransport's (eft) 12th Annual North American 3PL Awards Summit in Chicago. The company believes that as a result of the dimensional weight pricing method, more shippers will seek to optimize their packaging practices. The UPS Package Design and Test Lab helps customers optimize the size of packaging to minimize dimensional weight, ensuring packages are protected while in transit. For example, the package weight compared to the physical exterior dimension is declining. Letter carriers delivered in the fight against hunger

Postal Service letter carriers collected 72.5 million pounds of food on May 10 from the donations of thousands of communities throughout America for the annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive. Stamp Out Hunger, the nation’s largest single-day food drive, was launched in 1993 by the National Association of Letter Carriers (NALC) and is supported by the Postal Service. The nation’s food banks and pantries were able to stock up with food donations from the May 10th food drive.
